Kodachrome—the beloved color film processor introduced by Kodak 75 years ago has its final run in Kansas Thursday, where the last machine in operation is set to be sold for scrap. The film processor, favored for its colorful, warm prints, was more than a machine for some. "It's a pop culture icon," said a museum curator at the George Eastman House. Among the last visitors to use remaining machine was a railroad worker from Arkansas who paid $15,798 to have 1,580 rolls developed. At its peak, there were 25 labs that processed Kodachrome. Photographer drops case against Associated Press in Obama Hope poster fight

"The Associated Press is very pleased that Mannie Garcia has withdrawn from the case with prejudice, meaning that he cannot refile his claim against the AP," says Paul Colford, AP director of media relations. "The AP has not wavered in its belief that Garcia was a staff photographer at the time he took the image of then-Senator Barack Obama, that AP properly employed Garcia, and that AP is the rightful copyright owner of the photo in question. Further, the AP is pleased that Garcia voluntarily withdrew without any payment or consideration of any kind -- this was not a settlement." The settlement, however, will not affect Fairey's case against the Associated Press. Fairey claims that the use of the image falls under fair use. But, while he argued, at first, that he had used another image shot by a different photographer, Fairey, pressed to present proof of his claims, was forced to admit he had lied and fabricated evidence about which photograph the poster was based upon. A three-week trial will start on 21 March 2011 in New York.

Cleveland icon Harvey Pekar dies

(Cleveland) - Famed Cleveland underground comic book writer Harvey Pekar has died at the age of 70. Cuyahoga County Coroner's spokesman Powell Caesar confirmed the news to WTAM 1100 Monday morning. Pekar was found just before 1:00 am by his wife, Joyce Brabner, in their home in Cleveland Heights. Cleveland Heights Police Capt. Michael Cannon says Pekar had been suffering from prostate cancer, asthma, high blood pressure and depression. The cause of death is not yet known. -wtam.com

Cops who came to break up a party on Two Mile Hollow Beach in East Hampton were confronted by hundreds of young revelers who chanted "[Bleep] the police!" The party's host, James T. Della Femina, 21, son of advertising legend Jerry Della Femina and broadcaster Judy Licht, lives a few miles away on Drew Lane. He was given summonses for littering, noise and violating terms of a beach party permit issued for 90 guests. The invitation, which appeared on Facebook, promised "fantastic DJ's" and said, "BYOB is still highly recommended (no glass containers)." When police arrived at 1:55 a.m., "There were so many people, they were just trying to disperse them," Chief Jerry Larsen told the East Hampton Star. But Jerry Della Femina said his son -- who had hired security and a cleanup crew -- was ticketed because the deejay refused to turn the music off: "I'm very proud of my son.
